Journal reporter Monte Mitchell began corresponding with Freddie Hammer after Hammer was charged with three counts of capital murder in the Jan. 24 killings at Ron Hudler's Christmas tree farm. What follows is their unedited correspondence, which ended with Mitchell's last letter to Hammer March 21.
